The Witches of Sannio were women who inhabited the ancient Samnium region of Italy under the Roman Empire. Now the witches of Samnium dwell the area which has been divided across three different Italian regions. In these mountainous regions the witches lived in deep connection with nature and performed rituals at night when they would meet to celebrate together. These witches have taught their secrets to their daughters and nieces and these practices are still kept in the area to this day. We can learn a lot from them and their practices about magic in Roman times that was not connected to Roman religious practices.
