Join us Wednesday November 29th @ 7:30pm PST / 10:30pm EST for The Dark Goddesses PT23: Nephthys: Goddess of the Deadwith Patti Negri and Father Sebastiaan
In ancient Egyptian religion and mythology, Nephthys was not only a goddess of death, decay, and darkness but also a magician with great healing powers.
Like other ancient cultures, the ancient Egyptians had specific deities who presided over the realm of death and the passage to it. One of these was Nephthys, the goddess of death and the night. She was the fourth child of the earth, Geb, and the sky, Nut, and was originally associated with the air or the sky.
The anthropomorphic (human) goddess Nephthys fulfilled many roles in the Egyptian pantheon, but her most important was certainly as a protectress of the dead. She is most often depicted in the role of a mourner, specifically mourning the deceased god of the netherworld, her brother Osiris.
